Training Course International Mediation

Introduction to the Training

In the age of globalization, the world is growing ever closer together. This also applies to mediation. The need for mediators who are trained in international dispute resolution is growing steadily. With our training we prepare them in the best possible way for their demanding task,"

emphasizes Prof. Dr. Gernot Barth, Head of IKOME | Steinbeis Mediation.

Our training course closes a gap in the training market for mediators: It is focussing exclusively on intercultural aspects of international dispute resolution and combines these with a modern approach to international mediation. Thus, our training is aimed at mediators who already have a basic qualification in mediation and would like to acquire additional skills to handle cross-border and/or intercultural mediation cases successfully.

This six-month training course is focussing on methods of international mediation, intercultural communication and online dispute resolution. A great deal of emphasis is placed on exercises, in which the trainess practically apply the knowledge they have acquired in theory. Our training course consists of a basic program with live seminars, nine e-learning modules for self-learning, three in-depth workshops and a final exam with case simulations. It is completely conducted online by expert trainers and mediators as well as selected guests. Course language is English. The training is aligned with the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training. Upon successful completion of the course, trainees receive a certificate issued by Steinbeis University Berlin.

For more than 20 years IKOME | Steinbeis Mediation has been active in national and international mediation. We provide mediation services and offer basic and special mediation trainings based on and exceeding the requirements of German mediation law.

IKOME | Steinbeis Mediation has established itself internationally as the organizer of professional conferences for mediators working worldwide in Berlin, Florence, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Warsaw. Moreover, our institute is also involved in projects funded by the European Union to foster and develop cross-border mediation. We are also publishing a professional journal focussing on international aspects of conflict resolution called “The Mediation“.
